Goodbye January | Hello I'm Clo!

Goodbye January

Hello I'm Clo!

I can’t believe it’s the end of the month already!

January is supposed to be the start of something new and my new year didn’t go 100% of to a bang, more a booooo really. Boy trouble, then another boy drama during the month of January–( Are the really worth it? Probably not haha!)
I got flu (BOOOOO!) Got Barry M transitioning lipstick stuck on my hand for four days – The pigment loved my skin despite 5 showers!

The final bad thing that happened, I wrote about a few days ago, that way the passing of a dear, dear raucous friend, who I shall forever hold in my heart.

January for those reasons was tear jerking, emotional, sad and emotionally draining. Not necessarily in that order! With all things bad there must be something good at the end of that rainbow.

I can’t help but think I haven’t achieved much in January 2014. Though, I’ve said that it probably isn’t true. Lets have a good old delve into January and discover all the good bits!

I was part of an inspirational group of people to launch ‘TLC networking

I blogged daily – Me Rambling for 31 days straight

I Youtubed! I YouTubed daily, from the 20th January, after I’d got over my flu.

The passion to travel appeared whilst I was ill and I’m going to be off on my travels throughout the year! Deffo.

I figured out how to get rid of negative people- Just get rid of them. ( Yes it’s really that simple.)

Fell in love with Lena Dunham. (AGAIN!)

I hit 11,000 Twitter followers! How awesome is that. To find out just how awesome I am on Twitter click here to find out ;- )

Also on the social media whatsit I joined Google +https://plus.google.com/110150779231989114645/posts !

Started the rebrand and new logo development for I’m Sorry What Did You Say (ISWDYS)

Ate too much cake of all kinds, shapes and sizes. In many a tea room, the city over, there is always time for cake.

Drank my own body weight in tea. You only have to see my YouTube videos to spot that one!

Things I’d like to do in February.

Book my trip to Edinburgh.
Get down my mass magazine ‘To Read’ pile.
Do more beauty blog / make up blog / fashion blog posts throughout February in stead of all the talky, talky ones I’ve been doing in January as let’s face it – I’ve got enough products to do a daily review for the next year (That’s frightening!)

Things I’m doing In February.

I’m in London A LOT for work in February so will be broadening my horizons in the fashion capital! Hello LDN.

I’m also off for my Uni interview! I’m so, so, so excited I can not even stress. ‘Fashion Management and Marketing.’ Yes. Yes. Yes. I’ve got so much stuff I want to work on, ideas that wiz around my head. I’ve just got to learn how to create them and get them out there!

I’m also off to see Tich on valentines day! Awwwwww that’ll be exciting! A nice girly night out without the boys!

I hope you’ve had a good January and if like me you feel you perhaps haven’t been ‘On form’ this month, write down all the things you’ve done, just like I have and write what you’re looking forward to too.

I hope you have enjoyed my January blogposts and videos and I can’t wait to bring you along for the ride that will be February 2014!

Have a great February guys!

Lots of love,

Clo :- )

Barry M 160 Lip Paint Pot | Hello I'm Clo

Barry M 160 Lip Paint Pot | Hello I'm Clo

I ended up going to bed last night really early, so early I watched and surfed YouTube for an hour or two before finally nodding off to sleep. Whilst surfing I found 'Sprinkle of glitter' and 'Zoella' doing their all time make up favorites, which they filmed nearly three years ago, which led me onto Louise's (sprinkle of glitter ) video on lip products she wished she hadn't have bought, because I had time to kill I sat with my cocoa to watch my first ever 'poopy products' video.
It was actually really informative, as I have to admit I really dislike online negativity, for me, before watching this video, if a product was *excuse me* crap, It didn't deserve air time or my effort, but Louise showed me that regretful buying videos are simply to guide her viewers buying choices.

She gives Insight into things such as nibs drying out, packaging not suitable for use on-the-go and what are good dupes and what are not. Half way through her 'poopy lip products ' hall she mentioned the Barry M lip paints. A package of which arrived yesterday morning (see my Barry mvideo coming next week!) I too, was very disappointed in the colours when they arrived from Amazon. They were absolutely nothing like the photographs. The colours were all much of a muchness and were weak pigmented and in no way worth the hype.

Ironic how I wasn't a fan of those types of videos, yet by just watching one I could have saved a few pennies. Never mind. I'm a make up artist, surely I can make something out of them!

I'm not overwhelmed by these products at all, the packaging is lovely, displays what brand it is and what number shade, yet doesn't print the name of the colour anywhere, not helpful when you've got hundreds of makeup products, I too, like so many of you guys like a cutsie little name for a colour, it helps me remember what shade it is and somehow provides an odd, sweet attachment to a product and may ultimately (but sadly) determine whether I like that piece of make up or not.

When over the disappointment of the pigment, I managed to pluck up the effort to try a little of the 160 black cherry on my lips, properly make an effort and to my surprise in the night lighting it was a really subdued colour that was understated, not brash or bold yet stood out against my pale skin in the best possible way!

Needing some back up on my new thought revelation I asked the ever trusty parents what they thought. Got a mundane 'yes' from dad without so much of a raise of an eyelid. Mum was a fan, she liked the tone and the way it complimented my skin. Piece of advice you guys! Ask females! Or guys for a particular passion for lipstick shades (my dad is not one of those men!)

Barry m lip paint 160 black cherry is more like cherry without any black, it's not that dark it's more of a purple and red mix. It looks darker in the stick than it actually is.

Let me know what you like / dislike about the Barry M lip paints and if you have a fav!
I shall continue my Barry M journey tomorrow, for now I’m off to bed!

Lots of love,

Clo :- ))

A tribute to a fabulously British, Raucous lady | Hello I'm Clo

A tribute to a fabulously British, Raucous lady.

Watching your friend in the final hours of their life, is by far, one of the saddest things I've ever witnessed.

Today is a very sad day, a very close family friend passed away in the early hours of this morning after just a few weeks of being unwell.

Karen was a part of our family, our team, our life.

Yesterday, I spent time with her in the hospice with her, raiding the biscuit tin and holding her hand. I'd never been to a hospice before, I was apprehensive of what to expect, yet pleasantly surprised at the happy, smiley staff, welcoming volunteers and beautiful rooms, all to help you feel comfortable in your final days. They allow pets in too, which allows you to feel right at home. It was a home away from home.

Having someone tell you on their death bed that they love you is one of the most humbling things in life. The world around you stops, pauses. Those emails, phone calls and needy irritating friends no longer matter. Your focus is honed into the one thing that matters, you are completely focused as you know it's the last chance you've got.

It's amazing seeing so many loving friends that together, make a family around someone they love, someone who has been a major part of their life for a long, or short period of time. It's heartwarming to come together, put on a united front in order to, just be.

My final words to her were "Love you lots" something I always say at the end of my 'Hello I'm Clo' YouTube beauty videos. You never do know when your life will end, what will happen tomorrow and when your last, will be your last. It's so important to remind your love ones of how much they mean to you, you never know what's coming around the corner.

I heard the news of her passing this morning just after I woke up. The feelings of life glazed over me, as if lost in a trace, for now, the fight was over.

It's strange to think that that person, won't be there anymore, to give advice, a needed hug or that hardcore lecture about bad boyfriends in which she reveled.

Just before Christmas, Karen was just fine, chatting about how we were going to kick ass in 2014 and go find me a nice man who can keep up! Little did I expect to be attending her funeral before February is through.

Every time I eat a donut, see a Jäeger store or hear raucous laughter, I'll think of the woman who shaped my career, believed in me when no one else did and gave me my big break into the big, bad world of fashion. Her personality was infectious, core courageous, smiley happy and never let the world get her down, despite all the shit life threw at her.
If there's one person I aspire to be like, it's her. Never down, always up. Not many people could sing on their death bed, fighting through the strain, pain and toll cancer took on her body. Through slurred speech and shallow breathing she kept on fighting. Laughing and sounding posher than ever. Her British accent and posh tones, this time not so booming.

I made the promise to look after my mum and never take her for granted, never to rebel and to live life to the full, just like she did.

Life is for fucking living. This is again, a big, big wake up call. Life really is just too short, book that holiday, kiss that guy, laugh raucously.

I love you all lots,

Sweet dreams Karen, it’s been a dream.

My trip to Tagwell Tearooms | Hello I'm Clo

My trip to Tagwell Tearooms

Hello I'm Clo!

Monday morning arrived and the 6.03 am alarm rang. Delilah’s voice subtly awoke me. BOOM. I was awake. Published two YouTube video’s (You lucky, lucky people.) Monday is my day in the office, eating cake and tweeting. I joke, of course I do real work!
Monday for me was all about planning. I needed to go away from the office, away from the internet and knuckle down to get some ideas down on paper. Phones turned off and all that.

I thought I’d try out a new little tea rooms that has recently opened, just a short walk away from the office. Get a little peace and quiet for the day. How wrong was I.

The Tagwell tearooms, in Tagwell, Droitwich Spa is a cute little tea rooms just outside of town that’s only been open a few weeks. I’ve been wanting to give it a go, pop in for a few cakes since they started to move in in late 2013.

On my way to the tea rooms, with the shop in site I notices this hord of women, like a mothers meeting waiting to cross the road towards the tearooms.  They indeed crossed and pipped me to the post to the tearooms, when I got through the door I was even more irritated to find that these ladies had indeed managed to bag the last few remaining seats. It was packed! Crazy really as they haven’t been open long. They very kindly re-shuffled though to make sure I had a place to sit, which was very kind of them.

After taking my seat and waiting for the ladies to be seated and served before I got my drink I discovered they were all part of a local belly dancing group who meet up after dancing for a chin wag and a catch up, many of the women are either single or retired and discussed at length how they love coming to the group so they’re no longer in solitude and can have a good old chin-wag.

As I got my new Parisian notebook out (See my latest post) to make some beauty notes the other ladies in the tearooms were discussing the face plans and face-paint for a production at one of the local schools I was in my element. Good courteous people, make up chat and I even bumped into one of my Bras2U customers! I was well at home and hadn’t even got up to the counter yet to get drinks! Not only was I right at home but the chair the belly dancing group gave up for me was right next to a plug – RESULT.

Often these independent tea rooms can be expensive and overpriced due to their location and lack of buying power, yet the prices in the Tagwell Tearooms were great! Even better priced than anywhere else in the town. For a pot of tea it was £1.60 and £1.50 for a handmade cupcake.

New blogging stationary! | Hello I'm Clo

New blogging stationary!

Hello I’m Clo!

Today I’m talking about my brand spanking new stationary that I’m fan-girling over, it’s ridiculous. I’m 18 and still in ore of a bit of paper and a few pens and perhaps throw in a folder if I’m lucky.

I’ve always had a love for stationary. One of my earliest memories is filling through the reduced box at Ryman’s picking out the 10p sharpeners and pencil cases to sell to my friends from my desk at school for triple the price. Entrepreneurial spirit right there my friends!

Even now, it’s the standing joke in the office that I’m most likely to raid the free pens at events, or grab a goodie bag in the hope there’s a free highlighter.

For Christmas, my mum bought me a beautiful blue flower and purple bird notebook set, I planned and started using the books as my ‘To- Do’ list and my blogging notes. It’s laid out really well and I’ve put plenty in it but it’s a nightmare to commute with as it isn’t ring-binded, so it had to be replaced. Luckily I can utilise it for something else! The set I purchased as my replacement is stunning, kiddy and so, so cute! I can’t wait to start scribbling my notes and popping my leaflets and product paflets in the special themed holder.

My new stationary has a theme, we all know I just love a theme!

There is nothing better than having something, that when you see it, it makes you automatically happy. This. is one of those products.

“Paris est tre belle”

Bonjour Paris!

Three stationary items in this print were available. An A4 ringbinder, paper document and a ringbinded notebook.

They’re very teenage girl Parisian theme with doodles and images of bulldogs, bicycles and ‘belles’ as in women, not as in ‘Ring ‘em loud.’ The cartoon esque designs are all neatly placed in frames and in a gallery. The combination of pastels, mint greens and pinks are an unusual, demure combination on stationary but it works out really well, creating an inspiring, creative collection.

Making her mark on the A4 ring-binder folder is a Parisian chic walking her posh pooch with her side pony hair style and big polka dot bow, high heels on and girly pink doodles behind her butterflies, hearts and the Eiffel tower in a basic one tone colour.  Its all on top of a mint blue folder, the inner is a baby pink.

Neat high hair bun, bicycle and bulldog on a flowerbed inspired motif was what originally caught my eye. Full on story front, yet a toned down, print full back. Lined inside and quality paper. I was sold. I was taking this notebook home with me.

As my love of travel is forever growing, despite the fact I haven’t even left my beloved UK this year, this stationary is keeping the dream alive! Re-affirming my desires and dreams.

It’s fair to say I’m very happy with my ‘Happy’ purchases! I’m looking forward to filling them all up and sharing all my reviews, ideas and thoughts with you all!
Hopefully it’ll keep me on track with my beauty blogging schedule! I’ve been waffling all too much recently!

If you want to check out the stationary too take a look in Wilkinson’s!

Speak to you tomorrow!

Lots of love,

Clo : -))

Some Budget Beauty Buys! | Hello I'm Clo

Some Budget Beauty Buys!

Hello I'm Clo!

Today my Budget beauty buys Hello I'm Clo Video went live!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFv1AF-2YrY

What I bought from household British store Wilkinsons:

Baby Conditioner for washing my make up brushes, as recommended by my friend Abbie. The soft texture it keeps them soft and clean between using surgical spirit on them. It smells great and is dermatologically tested. So soft on skin whilst in contact with it. Baby beauty and cleaning stuff found in the baby isle and is just £1.25!

I picked up some hair bits and bobs for testing on some college projects. I bought some hair gel that is extra holding and firm and for just 75p great for testing new styles and ideas with hair! I also picked up some Shockwave ultra strong hair constructor for £1.24. I'm looking forward to using the creme gel to see what lengths it is suitable for.

I then raided the 'Simple' brand section of the store, picking up a cleansing lotion, eye creme and light moisturiser.

I'll do individual reviews as and when!

I hope you all enjoy the video,
Lots of love,

Clo :- ))

Primark Sale Haul | Hello I'm Clo

Hello I’m Clo!

So you may have seen a very similar looking jumper appearing in my Hello I’m Clo YouTube videos lately in various different colours, pink, purple, blue and perhaps a bit of brown in their too! You’re not going mad, crazy-mental. It’s all good I have in fact the same jumper in four colours. I’m in love once again.

The jumpers are from Primark and feature in my newly released Primark fashion sale haul. My Primark haul should have gone live about a week ago but YouTube wasn’t ready to handle the jumper craziness and colour madness. So I hope this new video clears up some confusion!

Because I’ve set myself a challenge of how far can I push the styling with these bargainous (New Word, started here. Copyright ‘Hello I’m Clo’) £3 jumpers I’ve been throwing them on at every occasion. It’s as if I don’t have any other clothes! I’m addicted to the idea of seeing how many outfits I can create from such a simple, budget basic as, at the end of the day, if you can concour one style you’re on good track to concour them all and become a real fashionista!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW0Pd5Hgp8s
 Me hiding behind a jumper.....

You can take something simple and give it heart, a great personality and a real fresh fashion forward edge. These types of simplistic garments are a stylists dream.

They were too good an offer to miss and I even bought some other bits and bobs to tied me over before the new styles land at I’m Sorry What Did You Say!? It’s all good stuff! I think it’s a great way to be. Getting to know and creating a signature style and then having the colour options available to you. That way you know you look hot –to-trout 90% - 100% of the time you wear said outfit or garment. (Not 100% as you could have a bad face/ hair day, we all have those.)

I hope you all enjoy the new video!

Speak to you tomorrow!

Lots of love,

What are we doing to ourselves? | Hello I'm Clo

Hello I'm Clo!

What are we doing to ourselves?

I have a friend, who is forever being involved with other people’s business. She’s the topic of every mutual friends conversation and not for positive reasons. A few nights ago, I went out for drinks with a male friend who was discussing the lack of respect this girls has for herself: letting people openly know all her relationship business, good and bad.

Does she deem it acceptable because she wants to know everyone else’s business- does she feel it’s even, as she chips in too!?

She lacks self confidence, yet goes too far trying to hide it.  This made my mind swarm with things I feel I need to get off my chest.

It’s become a dog eat dog world. People will backstab and judge without knowing anything about you. It’s a new generation of mean girls, but this time with ipads and 40k twitter followers.
Isn’t it time we started to focus on ourselves in a good way, re-direct this negative energy into something positive, to stop wasting time and effort on people and things that are just dead end and stuck in the rut that is that conversation, that person, that life.

Why do we obsess about others lives? Who’s sleeping with who, who’s been kissing so-and so? Does it really matter? No.
If we put as much effort into something constructive, as much as we do with bitching, fighting and getting involved ,the world would be a much better, advanced place to be.

It’s not just others lives we’re engulfed in either. When your life starts to hot up with a bloke, it can get crazy, scary-mental and you so simply can fall off path and go totally cray-cray (Technical term for crazy!)

I’m sick to the back teeth of people my age (and younger) obsessing about guys, to the point where obsession takes over their everyday routines, within a blink of an eye. It’s awful to think you could loose yourself, in order to get to know someone you’ve only just met, or know nothing about.

“ Why hasn’t he text me?”
“What is he doing?”
“He’s read my message but hasn’t replied, he’s so obviously sleeping with such and such.”

People PLEASE! Let’s dive back 50 years ago, there were no phones, cyber stalking or crazed google searching. Most of the people who met 50 years ago are still together today. I seriously think there’s something to be said for having a non-tech relationship, especially for young people, just like me, who unfortunately, know no better.!

There is more to your life than the person you date.  We’re often in the rat race that is the dating game. What we tend to do is get hooked, absorbed into the person we’d like to introduce into our lives, the thing we forget all too easily is the fact, that, we were perfectly fine before this ‘date’ was even on the scene.
It’s about time we stopped searching for someone to validate our existence and learn to love our solitude.

At the end of the day- Everything happens for a reason.
If something is meant to happen, it’ll happen. End of.
You can’t force anything in life, as if you do, it could potentially backfire if it’s not meant to be.

We live and learn.

Ironically as I wrote this The Hoosiers’ track ‘Trick to life’ came on. It’s so true, the trick to life is not to get too attached to it.  We’re all too absorbed in ourselves and others, taking up more brain space than is necessary – lets get some sort of equilibrium here. It’s about time we started caring about others in a REAL way and not just for their gossip.

Keep an air of mystery about yourself, don’t give it all up.

Speak tomorrow!

Lots of love,

Clo  :)

Basic Brown Eye Makeup Tutorial | Hello I'm Clo

Basic Brown Eye Makeup Tutorial | Hello I'm Clo

Hello I'm Clo!

Today's look is a nice and simple brown eye with a little added shimmer, a beautiful look for a non corporate office and a chilled day out. Great as a base for a day to night look with the highlighted brow bone.

Please bare with me- this was filmed very early in the morning! The coffee kicks into me after a while! More coffee is needed at that time of the morning.

http://youtu.be/HgsZxlh2-8c

Here's how I created this look!

Hair
First and foremost pop your hair up, tie it back if it's long or just use a toothed Alice band to scrape it all off your face, this will also sweep your baby hairs out of the way so they don't get make up all over them!

Hands
Anti Bactirialise (If that's even a word!) your hands before you begin so you're not putting any unnecessary germs onto your skin and moisturise your hands so they're soft and no flakes of skin will irritate or move your make up when you use your hands.

Moisturise
Moisturise your face and neck line and the top of your neck, this will keep your make up fresher and hydrated for longer. If you require a long term make-up look use a primer like I have. I used the Seventeen primer, which i find to be a really great even, long lasting primer. Use a fingertip sized amount, apply with fingers and focus on your T zone. Apply primer to any other areas that you are going to conceal.

Redness? Red Spots?
For red spots apply a green concealer. Natural Collection do a fantastic green concealer for under £2. You just can't go wrong. Apply with a concealer brush, I use the Barry M concealer brush or with clean fingers in a stippling way to red areas or areas that are prone to over blush, or become redder throughout the day.

Concealer
If you don't suffer from redness, lucky you! Skip the redness bit and apply normal skin coloured concealer just to the areas that need it i.e spots or dark marks. For super dark marks I use a heavier, thicker concealer, the Maybelline 24 hour one.  You may like to apply stick concealer to under your eyes to brighten them and look a little more awake- just like I did! The concealer I used was Colour Trend from Avon which was £1.50 What. A. Bargain.

Foundation
After patting in my concealer I applied my foundation using the hydrating formula from The Body Shop in shade 4. Apply to the areas of your face that require it (For me that's all) and blend, blend, blend to the top of your neck where you put your moisturiser on. I apply foundation with a sponge, however you can apply using your fingers or a foundation brush.

Buffer
Using the Real Techniques buffer brush I push all my foundation into all the little cracks that my sponge may have missed and once again blend down my face / neck to create a smooth coverage and colour transition.

Powder
Locking my foundation in with the Avon mineral powder, in shade Ivory helps keep my make up in place whilst balancing out the colour. I apply this by using my Models Own powder brush.

Eye Primer
Boot's Number 7 eye primer is a bloody Godsend and I wouldn't be without it- it helps keep pigment and doesn't let my shadow stray- perfect! I followed on from primer using my Number 7 eyebrow shaping pencil and brow brush, creating more of a defining brow shape using short sharp and soft strokes to build up the final look. Lock in with a small amount of powder that's left on your powder brush.

Eye Shadow
Using my Heaven and Earth brown tone palette from MUA i used four colours to combine and work into my eye sockets to create a natural, glowing look. Starting with the darkest of shades, I apply to the lid with an eyeshadow brush, then take the medium tone and using a slanted brush, define my eye crease, especially on the right hand side. I then take the lightest colour and blend in with a blending brush and adding focus and emphasis on the inner corner, as this is where the lightest shade should sit. Adding a little white based / ivory colour onto a fresh blending brush and applying lightly on the brow bone, whilst meeting the colour of the eye-shadow complete the look and opens up the eyes to look awake and refreshed. Don't worry if you make any slips you can blend them in and all will be well!

Mascara
Once you're happy with your eyes apply you favorite mascara, try an everyday mascara without curl or lash extension formula so it doesn't overpower the look of this make up. I'm currently loving the Collection no clumps mascara, the colour is easily removed after a days wear and holds its self well. It is so easy to apply and has no clumps. Does just what it says on the tin!

Like I said in the Make-Up tutorial I filmed an OOTD. See the full outfit of the day here:
I hope you enjoyed this make up tutorial, let me know what you'd like me to do next!
