It's been a few weeks since I completed university and I finally feel like I'm getting a little bit of balance back into my life, both personally and professionally. My new found time has allowed me to relax and take time with some of my favourite passions
. Reading is one of those passions. I've always been a big reader, despite being a little slow due to my dyslexia and requiring a reading viser. I love nothing better than a good book and a steaming hot cup of coffee.
I can be anywhere in the world enjoying a book and a book can too transport me anywhere.
In my first year of university I lived two minutes from the uni library, which I'd frequent every evening between 7-8, to browse the archives, the magazines and the documentary DVD section whilst it was quiet, just before closing. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time there and checking out books to enjoy sat my by dorm room window. Second and third year didn't allow as much personal reading or hobby flexibility, so It feels like a real privilege now, to have some time, just me and the pages.
Non fiction is my bag. I like facts, learning and developing. It's not very often I read fiction, however 13 reasons why has tempted me. I also like library books and second hand books. I love the smell, the notes scribbled on the pages and the marks left behind by the previous person. Second hand books are also very sustainable and often raise funds for charities, which is a bonus. I've recently picked up a few books from charity stores and on amazon second hand to see me through the university and new job bridging period.
I'm finding myself getting lost for hours in books. One day It'll be an autobiography, another a factual breakdown of fashion business and then for good measure, a book all about street style, shoes or vintage pieces. I adore fashion and it's my primary type of read
but I love a good Autobiography too. I like to learn about people and their lives through their eyes, I also like the fact that each and every one of us is different, we each have our own path.
So I'm buried in books, I've always got about three or four on the go at any given point, which suits me: one in my handbag, one in the living room and two on the bedside table so I have my pick before bed and I can happily read for hours on end, undisturbed. Just me, some music and the words. It's bliss, the most calming thing possible and I thoroughly enjoy it.
With this in mind, I thought I'd start a list of what I'm currently reading and feature it in the side bar of this blog. Friends are always interested in what I'm reading and I was the go-to at university when it came to the reading list. I could tell people what was good before even getting the set reading list! I think my library history would serve as extensive reading list in itself!
So keep checking back to see what I'm reading and I'll pop a little photo in the side bar of the books I'm currently reading! Be sure to let me know what you're reading and what you'd think I'd like, I'd love to hear your suggestions!
